Pentwater, MI at sunset. Simply the best. | Incredible places, Photographs and memories, Beautiful places

Pentwater:
Municipal Dock: $40/night Michigan DNR site; $52/night on site - it wasn’t worth arguing with a man who never makes a mistake: electric/water, showers/bathrooms - it’s OK. The docks are old so tie carefully. We were tossed like a cork every night and broke a line in the middle of the night (thank you Loopers on LeeAnn for the save). Squeaky floating docks and exposed metal pipes hungry for your hull is not fun.

Snug Harbor is around the bend so I suggest staying in their marina - more protection from the wind, not so bouncy, plus better facilities.

In Town
It is the cutest little town with everything you need: Cenzo’s Grocery $$$; Wine/Beer & Charcuterie Shop, and coin-operated laundry at Snug Harbor.

The docks are within walking distance to the breakwater which is a major ‘town happening’ at sunset. There are campgrounds all over Michigan - and this one is no different. Clean, family oriented, and the one by the breakwater sells ice cream between 2-hours before sundown until sundown - sorta funny.

Upcoming Weather
There are a few other Loopers here, What A Day and LeeAnn. We’re all watching the weather and trying to predict what Lake Michigan will do next. Big winds are coming from the west today and tomorrow; so, we will be here for at least two days. Great - have to deal with the Dock Master again.

We are watching the weather patterns and, according to Jim, it looks like crossing the lake to Wisconsin on Thursday is a better plan than hopping down Michigan and hoping for weather windows.

I completely disagree and think staying on the Michigan side with clearly designated Harbors of Refuge every 20-30 miles is a better idea. We don’t know these waters, its patterns, or threats.

09/07/21 Tuesday: 9-16 kt winds; 2-4 ft waves; 30-50 mph gusting winds; 2” hail, water spouts
09/08/21 Wednesday: 13-16 kt winds; 3-5 ft waves; 30-40 mph gusting winds
09/09/21 Thursday: 4-9 kt winds; 1-2 ft waves not so breezy

DECIDED TO STAY ON THE MICHIGAN SIDE OF THE LAKE and heading to Grand Haven:

All weather apps are full of LIES! Traveling to Grand haven was 3-4 foot waves!

Grand Haven
Free dock on the City wall; no electric/water/amenities. We got in late and left early. Jim walked into town and said it was pretty hip with a lot to offer. I’ll put it on the list for next time. The stress from the waves just wore me out! Lake Michigan can be a wicked witch!
