HARBOR OF REFUGE
Michigan has Saugatuck listed as a Harbor of refuge. The actual refuge is located near the mouth of the canal and will hold 2 boats. One small tug was in the anchorage when we arrived. Additionally, Michigan granted funds for Saugatuck Harbor to be a refuge with docking space but I think Saugatuck was less inclined - it’s the political vibe I get from the town. Every transient slip had a permanent resident.

MARINAS
Saugatuck is a happening place and reservations need to be made a month, or more, ahead of time - now I know. There are so few slips because of the transient slips being leased to residents. There was one marina with space; Singapore Marina at $3.50/ft - delusional - I saw the marina coming in - you have GOT to be kidding me.

ANCHORAGE FOR DAYS
Our first night in Saugatuck was on the T-head of the shopping dock with another looper, Summer Rain. There are more loopers around us: Baboo, Lucky Me, Susi, and No Worries. They were smarter than me and made reservations in one of the four marinas months ahead of time. The Smarter Loopers saw us on Nebo and came over for a visit.
The next afternoon we were run off the dock by the Saugatuck Police Department, pretty sure the KAREN from Sergeant Marina led them to us - KAREN will never be a Looper. KAREN is docked adjacent to the shopping dock and had to deal with little peasant watercrafts docking so close to her - poor KAREN. LegaSea and Summer Rain, set anchors 30 yards from the shopping dock and used dinghies for the rest of our stay.
SAUGATUCK VILLAGE
The village has the most awesome group of individuals and independent shops, restaurants, and galleries. I could totally live here. It’s just beautiful. We visited the Uncommon Grounds twice for morning coffee and a GF treat.

Pumpernickel served the VERY best Bourbon Old-fashion Cocktail I have ever had, going back this evening for another. They smoke it - WHAT?!
The Sand Bar Saloon only books the hottest bands available; the night we went JRBSD was playing. Best of all? Dogs are welcome everywhere - what’s not to like about this place?
FRIENDS FROM HOME
We met up with Julie and Danny Bryski, her sister Val and husband Paul, and one of their married children. It was a lot of fun running around with them. I was so glad we could make it all work out - even with the law on our tail.
Love all the images and adventures. Don't like spiders either. Take care and stay safe. We miss you. The O's
