RIVER SYSTEM: DAYS 109-112 : Paducah to Green Turtle Bay Marina and Resort

On the map, we are about directly across from the Creek House

Paducah to Barkley Lock & Dam: 7.0 mph; 42.6 miles; 6:08 hours

Barkley Lock to Green Turtle Bay: 4.3 mph; 1.7 miles; 0:23 hours

This is a long, quiet trip. The only thing changing are your thoughts and spotty podcasts.

Barkley Lock & Dam: UP 57’

Floating Bollards; the electric fence for carp is inside this lock - lots of dead and flopping carp and debris.

Green Turtle Bay Marina and Resort: WOW

$1.35/ft: electric/water; showers/bathrooms; coin-operated laundry; courtesy car; shuttle to and from town, spa, pool, full service marina, restaurants, spa. This is what every marina wishes it could be. The grounds are manicured, American Flags dot the white picket fences, AGLCA flags everywhere - spectacular. I made a spa appointment a week ago - can’t wait.

Thirsty Turtle: The perfect sized menu not too much - not too little and hits the highlights of what people generally order. They also have cornhole sets, a giant checkers board, live entertainment, and a fire pit. All of this sits on a peninsula overlooking the Barkley Lock and Dam.

Patti’s 1885 Restaurant: A lot of hype; Cracker Barrel is better. Whatever I ate, it was the last thing I ate for two days.

They had a hometown parade called The Blue Moon Festival. It started with the National Anthem - acapella - then the Pledge of Allegiance, and continued with the color guard and down home patriotism. It was so much fun! The floats threw candy for the kids. This is a wonderful little community. We really have to thank our dockmates for driving us into town and offering us a seat on their float.

Todd, Denise, and Larry! What great people! So, we were just sitting at the bar having a bourbon and talking about the Erie Canal. The mention of the Ski Teams opened a rabbit hole and down we went. Plans were made for water skiing on Sunday before we left and I have the pictures to prove it. Larry is 71! What a fun group of people - bourbon works magic.

SUMMARY of Green Turtle Bay Resort and Marina:

If I lived around here, I would either buy into this marina or become a serial VIP renter. If you buy one of their condos, you must rent out a set amount of time; the marina gets a cut and handles rental payments and repairs. I have no idea if there are any other hidden prices. GTB also has a canvas shop, embroidery, full service boat mechanics with a pull-out. This would be a great place for a young family and future generations.
