DAYS 228-233 : Peck Lake to Fort Pierce - Indian River Anchorage - Turkey Creek Anchorage

Peck Lake to Fort Pierce: 8.1 mph; 26.7 miles; 3:16 hours

Fort Pierce to Indian River Anchorage: 7.0 mph; 20 miles; 2:50 hours

Indian River Anchorage to Turkey Creek Anchorage: 7.5 mph; 25.9 miles; 3:28 hours

Fort Pierce Municipal Marina:

$2.25/ft plus electric $ (happening more often now); showers; laundry $3/wash and $2/dry (pretty expensive); docks have locked gates and the marina is within walking distance to the First Friday Night activities and Saturday Farm Market. The Farmer’s Market was the best I have seen sine St Pete's: breads, honey, FRESH fruits & vegetables, soaps, and local talent. Fantastic morning.

HANDS DOWN! YADA IS THE BEST DOCKHAND! The office staff is pretty friendly and helpful. Spent time with New Hope swapping stories; this is the marina where they recently crossed their wake. I needed to mail some letters so we walked a little ways to the restaurant, Mervis, that shares space with the post office; Cuban Sandwich and a Stamp - works for me.

While we were on our way to the restaurant, we saw an advertisement for the local Greek Festival - so we called an Uber. St Nicholas is a pretty church with gold gilt paintings and beautiful stained glass. I lit a few candles for the kids, mom, and other family members.

I have never seen a Greek Church that wasn’t over the top with beauty. The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Granby Street in Norfolk, will always the the most beautiful in my eyes. I think all Greeks think that way about their churches.

While we were eating, the Greeks next to us asked about the food; from there it was a full on conversation. Turns out, they are from Fairfax, Breckenridge, and knew Jim’s parents! Small world for sure.

We also visited The National Navy SEAL Museum; what those men and women have to accomplish to become a member of a SEAL team is over the top and near physically impossible. I am not sure I have the words to describe the depth of my respect for these people. I can say this: I am so thankful they are on our side and I salute them for their selfless acts of bravery and protection against all enemies of the USA - stateside or other.

Indian River ANCHORAGE: Vero Beach AreaMoving northbound, there are anchorages on both sides of the ICW in Vero Beach. Anchor to the West or else you’ll need to wait for the tide to help you out on the East. The East side proved a stronger hold - good mud - ya gotta weight the options.

We waited out the rain and wind in this little anchorage with our neighbors - dolphin! Stayed on the boat.I swear, watching the dolphin never gets old and they make you smile.

Turkey Creek ANCHORAGE: Palm Bay Area

S K E T C H. There is shoaling and a collection of derelict boats tied together at the entrance of the anchorage. I think the local homeowners did that to deter anyone from anchoring in their little basin. We found a good hold and held it the entire time we were here. There is a “Free-Total-Tweaker-Sketchy” dock - use it at your own risk.

There isn’t anything near this anchorage. Stayed on the boat.
