DAYS 234-236: Turkey Creek to Cocoa Village Marina - Cocoa Village Free Dock - HOW IS COCOA VILLAGE NOT IN THE LOOP BOOKS?!

Turkey Creek to Cocoa Village Marina: 8.0 mph; 24.9 miles; 3:06 hours

Cocoa Village Marina to Cocoa Village FREE Dock: 4.6 mph; 1751 yds; 0:12 hours

Cocoa Village Marina

$2.50/ft plus electric; showers/laundry; next to the village. Make reservations way ahead of time; this is a smaller marina with excellent staffing. Our night here was peaceful, safe, and clean.

Cocoa Village FREE dock

The winter winds are out of the North, making this dock, on the south side of the causeway, a perfect location.

The Village has big plans for the waterfront; so, I’m not sure this FREE Dock will be free much longer. They are dredging at the end of February 2022 and have turned off the boat power/water. It didn’t deter us (or the other boats); it was like anchoring out but at a floating dock.

The Village plans to add a dock master facility, re-establish the electric and water, and later add a mooring field. I hope they keep the village charm when thinking about the design. It's adorable here.

We walked across the causeway to Publix, 1.8 miles, and then caught an Uber back to the boat - that’s how we met Willis. More about Willis later.

In the Village, we had pizza from Ryan’s, BBQ from Cryderman’s (OMG; central Texas), coffee from Ossorio’s, and fantastic brews from the Bier Garten. We also made our way to the local artist co-op and a few of the antique shops. Hair and nails at 2-twenty-4 Studio - excellent pricing, service, and they understand boater needs. Everything here is comfortable and the people are so nice to be around!

This is a perfect location to see Orlando and the Kennedy Space Center.

We went to the Kennedy Space Center. The tickets are $50-55 each person and a one-way Uber ride would have been another $50. Remember Willis? He drove us and it really helped us out $50/round trip. Cool thing about Willis is that he was born and raised in this area and remembers running through orange groves; sadly, most of the groves are gone now. Willis retired from a 30 year career with NASA and was able to guide our visit beforehand. When he picked us up, I chatted non-stop about all the cool things that I saw and he really lit up! He knows so much; great man. With permission, I sent his name and number to the Side Piece for when they get here.

When we were at the Space Center, we saw a rocket in transport - W O W. We also saw a failed rocket launch from Cocoa Village.
