Safe Harbor Beaufort Marina: pronounced BEW-fert
$40/night mooring. It is a peaceful area and I bet it would be a great place to retire. The dolphin popped up from time to time - it never gets old. Getting a little breezy.
ON THE WAY TO BEAUFORT SC
We traveled past Hilton Head, Parris Island, and Port Royal before hooking a ball in Beaufort. After you cross the Georgia line, and go a short ways, you will come to Old Daufuskie Crab Company MM 570 at Freeport Marina just south of Hilton Head. Their dock is the largest of the docks you will see. The southernmost dock is designated for seaplanes. Hilton Head will ferry people over, so be careful of that. The island advertises a general store and the Scrap Iron Bar; I will not be held responsible for what you find. The establishments are not tech in the least bit; you’ll have to make a phone call - no one answered when we called.
It is my understanding that, if you buy a meal from the Scrap Iron Bar, you can tie up to the dock for the night. I have no idea if that's accurate but it's advisable to call the restaurant ahead of time and ask for the Day’s Special and permission to dock overnight for safe harbor using your best manners (seriously, I read that).

Beaufort, SC - JUST A STOP
We used the floating day dock to scout out Beaufort. This is an artsy town and a quick walk from one end to the other. When you first walk off the dock, be sure to read the circle of marble plaques with Beaufort’s history. We thought Beaufort was perfect for getting off the boat and stretching our legs.
B&B Seafood: On The Wall (like an anchorage - but not)
If the weather is calm, just anchor out at one of the marked areas on your navigation system. Otherwise, spend the $30 to tie up to the debilitating dock for the night.
They had great dogs but the store’s seafood was frozen and terrible. From the dock you can see the shuckers working in an area to the left of the store - walk over and see if you can strike a deal.
NOTE: Remember to check icwfreedocks.com to find free docks, the site is a little dated but easy enough to check out. The website was started as shared information among a few boater friends. They realized how helpful the information could be for others and shared it on the net.
